The teenaged years in one’s life is often regarded as being deeply rooted in social interaction and persona. Social identity is something that holds a massive importance to the developing identity of an adolescent, as they are able to craft the type of person they want to be and how they wish to be seen by others. This is often determined through music and music taste as music, seeing various subcultures (each with their own values, aesthetics, cultures, etc.), often acts as a social badge allowing for an accurate perception of others. This piece reflects on this idea through exploring the medium of a band poster (in reflecting the punk rock subculture) and synthesizing the adolescent character to the fiction world within the poster to communicate the reality behind who they wish to be perceived.
